Okanogan County Wood Stove Exchange Program
Update as of November, 2024: The allocated funding for the 2023-2025 program has been met. Please email Anna Jones to get on the waitlist for the 2025-2027 program. The program requirements will likely remain the same as 2023-2025. Thank you!
Following the successful replacement of nearly 30 wood stoves in the Methow Valley in 2021-2023, Clean Air Methow was awarded another contract to continue the expansion of our wood stove exchange program for 2023-2025. Qualified participants in Okanogan County will have their old woodstove removed and replaced with a new heating device: a new efficient wood stove or pellet stove (free of charge), or gas stove (at a reduced cost). Replacing an old wood-burning stove with a new, efficient one can result in greater than an overall reduction in particulate matter released into our air and potentially create cleaner indoor air to breathe.
Funded by a grant from the Department of Ecology, MVCC has again partnered with Valley Lumber to replace stoves for qualified applicants. This program does not replace pellet stoves.
To qualify for this program, applicants must:
Own a home located in or near Winthrop, Twisp, Pateros, Okanogan, Omak, Tonasket, or Oroville. (Renters are encouraged to talk to their landlords. Replacements will be prioritized for locations in higher population density areas where winter air pollution is poor.)
Have a household income of less than $45,000 (Income limit varies depending on household size, please inquire.)
Applicants who are above the income guidelines may apply for a $2500 voucher toward a new stove
Provide a valid photo identification and proof of current address and income.
Use a non-EPA-certified or pre-2020 wood stove or insert as your primary source of heat.
